Junior Edwards, Legendary Alligator Hunter and ‘Swamp People’ Star, Dies
Junior Edwards, one of the most recognizable faces from the hit docuseries Swamp People, has passed away. Known for his fearless alligator hunting skills and larger-than-life personality, Junior became a beloved figure to fans of the show and to those who knew him personally. His death was announced over the weekend by his grandson, Willie Edwards, in an emotional Facebook post.
“Rest easy, Pawpaw,” Willie wrote. “I know you’re probably running hoop nets or stirring up some mischief behind those pearly gates. You’ll be missed more than words can say. We love you more than anything. Until we meet again…”
While no official cause of death has been made public, Willie had shared earlier in the month that his grandfather had been dealing with serious health challenges. His posts reflected not only concern but deep admiration and love for the man who taught him much of what he knows today about life in the Louisiana swamps.
“For those who don’t know, my grandpa’s been struggling with some health problems lately. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. We need a miracle. Get better for us, Papa. We love you!”
The news of Junior’s passing has left a void in the Swamp People community. Fans and cast members alike took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the man many considered a true legend of the bayou.
Ashley “Deadeye” Jones, a fellow cast member and longtime friend, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram alongside a photo of the two together:
