“The world lost a legend. Mr. Junior Edwards has passed away. Please keep his family in your prayers. He was one of the greatest gator hunters there ever was — a real hardcore outdoorsman. I watched this man haul in monster gators like it was nothing. I’m glad we stopped for that picture, even though we were both exhausted that day. It’s a memory I’ll hold onto forever.
Another castmate, Ronnie Adams, also honored Junior’s memory, writing simply:
“Prayers for the Edwards family. Rest in peace, Junior!”
Junior Edwards was more than just a television personality — he was a father, grandfather, mentor, and community member who represented a way of life many have never experienced. His authenticity, grit, and humor brought a unique charm to Swamp People, a show that has aired since 2010 and follows alligator hunters in Louisiana during the short but intense hunting season each year.
Junior appeared in the series from its very first season, often accompanied by his son Willie and later by his grandson. Their family legacy quickly became a fan favorite, showcasing not only impressive hunting skills but also the deep bonds forged through generations of swamp life. After six seasons, Junior stepped away from the show, only to return unexpectedly in Season 12, much to the delight of fans.
Beyond the cameras, Junior was known for his deep knowledge of the swamps, his unshakable work ethic, and his willingness to share his wisdom with younger generations. His passing marks the end of an era for those who have followed the Edwards family’s journey on screen and off.
For many fans, Junior wasn’t just a character — he was the heart of Swamp People, embodying the rugged, self-reliant spirit of Louisiana’s wetlands. His legacy will live on not only in episodes of the show, but in the lives of those he mentored and inspired.
