Bake Time: 35–40 minutes
Total Time: ~1 hour
Ingredients
For the Chocolate Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Chocolate Ganache
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped (or high-quality chips)
Instructions
Prepare the Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch or two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Slowly pour in the boiling water while mixing on low. Batter will be thin — that’s what makes it moist!
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan before frosting.
