👩🍳 Instructions
Prep the bread:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish (or similar).
Place cubed bread in the dish. If it’s fresh, toast it in the oven for 5–10 minutes to dry it slightly.
Make the custard:
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter.
Pour this mixture evenly over the bread.
Gently press the bread down to make sure it soaks up the liquid.
Stir in raisins or nuts, if using.
Rest & bake:
Let the mixture sit for 15–20 minutes to absorb.
Bake uncovered for 40–50 minutes, until the top is golden and the custard is set (it should spring back lightly when touched).
Serve:
Cool slightly before serving.
Drizzle with sauce, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
🍯 Optional Vanilla or Bourbon Sauce
Ingredients:
½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or 1 tablespoon bourbon)
Instructions:
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Stir in sugar and beaten egg, whisking constantly until smooth and slightly thickened (about 3 minutes).
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla or bourbon.
Spoon warm sauce over bread pudding to serve.
