Our ears reveal our health

Our ears reveal our health 👂✨

The way the human body works never ceases to amaze us. In fact, it can send signals to warn us of a problem or disorder – through its various organs and parts. Did you know that your ears can reveal a lot about your health?

In addition to the function of hearing, the ear – like any other part of the body – is also an important indicator of our health. One of the main indicators of this is earwax (cerumen). It is a wax made up of fatty substances, amino acids and minerals that protects the external auditory canal. It has a very important role: it helps prevent the entry of pathogens and bacteria.

However, if the consistency, color or appearance of earwax changes, it may indicate a health problem, as the balance of the protective layer is disrupted. Let’s see what the different changes could mean:

🔹 Gray wax
If you notice gray wax on your cotton swab, there are two possible explanations. One is environmental pollution – for example, in big cities – and the other is genetic. According to Bruno Frachet and Émilie Vormés’ book The Hearing Guide, the type of earwax you have is an inherited trait. For example, people of Asian and Native American descent have gray, dry earwax, while Caucasians and Africans have brown, moist, honey-like earwax.

🔹 Traces of blood in earwax
